Cookie Policy

This explains what is stored on your device when you visit Vuther, why, and how you control it. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers personal data more generally.

In the UK, storing or reading information on your device is governed by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 as well as the UK GDPR. Consent is required before anything other than strictly necessary storage is placed on your device.

The site itself sets no cookie. There is no login, no session and no reason for us to recognise you between visits.

One preference is stored on your device, but not as a cookie: your chosen interface language lives in your browser's local storage under vuther-lang, and your cookie choice under vuther-consent. Neither is ever transmitted to us. Both are strictly necessary — one delivers a feature you asked for, the other is what lets us honour your decision — so neither requires consent. Clearing your browser storage removes them.

These are set by Google Analytics, and only if you accept. Nothing is set before you choose.

_ga — distinguishes one visitor from another so visit counts are not inflated. Does not identify you by name. Expires after 2 years.

_ga_<property> — maintains session state for our Analytics property. Expires after 2 years.

If we introduce advertising, this page will be updated to list those cookies before any are set, and they will require their own consent.

Worth being precise about, because "we respect your privacy" is easy to write and hard to check.

If you decline, nothing at all is sent to Google. We do not merely withhold the cookie — the Analytics script is never loaded, so no request leaves your browser for Google's servers. Many sites using Google Consent Mode still send so-called cookieless pings when consent is refused. We do not.

If you accept, Google Analytics receives a randomly generated identifier (the value of the _ga cookie), the pages you view, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and general information about your browser and device. Google does not retain your full IP address.

That identifier holds no name or contact details, but under the UK GDPR a pseudonymous online identifier is still personal data. We say so rather than claiming no personal data is involved, because the latter would not be true.

Vuther itself receives nothing from cookies. We see only aggregate reports, with no means to link them to an individual and no interest in doing so.

You were asked when you first visited. You can change that decision at any time, and it takes effect immediately.

Change your cookie preferences

You can also delete cookies through your browser settings, configure your browser to refuse them, opt out of Google Analytics across all sites using Google's browser add-on, or manage ad personalisation in your Google account.

We lose the ability to see aggregate traffic patterns, which makes it harder to know which tools are worth improving. That is the entire consequence. No tool is withheld, nothing degrades, and you will not be asked again on every page.
